Dresses 2012 not the end
In my bag was a black lace dress of some fragility, and a half bottle of pink champagne just in case, but I knew these items would not be getting an airing.
On me was a very respectable grey woollen Homecoming Dresses by Philosophy with covered buttons and an interesting front placket detail, but it was a very nice day dress and nothing more.
When I bought it I thought: "Oh, I'll feel so elegant and cosy and Short Prom Dresses sitting in the library amid a sea of books in a nice long-sleeved dress. It would be perfect to wear to a children's party at 11 o'clock on a Sunday morning when it's hard to know what to sport if you don't own jeans. I'll just pull it on, add some tights and a coat, and whisk myself out of the door without any qualms."
What I had forgotten is that respectable day dresses make you feel heroic and spry at work; but they remove the incentive to get changed in the evening and before you know it, your simple-but-not-uninteresting day dress is being passed off as party wear and it's fooling not a soul.
These day dresses encourage a sort of insidious sloth. You think: "But I'm already wearing a dress; I don't need to change for goodness' sake." But you do. "Never mind," I bravely countered. "It's quite a good look for the train. I'll cross the next bridge when I get to it. It Prom Dresses 2012 not the end of the world."
As I was deep in this fairly pointless reverie, the woman next to me, who was fiftyish and wearing multi-coloured leggings, a sharp brown leather coat and a ton of gold, took a call on her mobile phone.
"I know," she said. "I was just thinking that. It was lovely ... In fact I felt so happy this morning I nearly asked you to marry me."
I sat bolt upright and pricked up my ears. "Pageant Dresses would you have done if I had?" The pause was gigantic. "Will you marry me then, love?" Another pause. Her face creased with joy. I caught her eye and did a tentative thumbs up.
Balanchine took a keen professional interest in Barbara Weisberger - she was one of his first child pupils - and he was particularly helpful in her efforts to start the Pennsylvania Ballet company in Philadelphia back in l963. Having survived several management shake-ups, the company now looks strong under the artistic directorship of Roy Kaiser.
On one of the troupe's rare visits to New York, it proved the Balanchine tradition remains strong. An air of familiarity and assuredness pervades a difficult ballet such as Concerto Barocco, one of his gems in the company's repertoire. The well-coached dancers perform Plus Size Dresses ballet with crispness and attention to detail and, blessedly, to live music.
Spanish-born and trained Arantxa Ochoa, whose long legs and arms in motion give her the grace of a flying bird, brought a classical elegance, all soaring lifts and long, stretched arabesques, to one of the two female leads. The second lead was danced by Martha Chamberlain in a spirited performance. Partnering, basically the male role in this work, was provided by solidly imperturbable Sergio Torrado, the troupe's Spanish-born principal dancer.
